Myojo Shio Tonkotsu Ramen Review – Noodle Journey Episode 29

This review marks a first for me: a review of a frozen instant noodle product. Everything prior has been shelf-stable, but this one, Myojo Shio Tonkotsu Ramen, comes straight from the chilled section of my local H Mart. With two servings per pack and a price of $5.99, it's a $3 bowl of fresh ramen, which is remarkably affordable compared to premium instant varieties like Ichiran. This is a Japanese product from Myojo, a brand known among noodle enthusiasts and often praised on Reddit for its quality.

Sapporo Ichiban Soy Sauce Flavor Ramen Bowl (US Version) Review – Noodle Journey Episode 20

This Sapporo Ichiban Soy Sauce Flavor Ramen Bowl is my first time reviewing a Sapporo Ichiban product, despite the brand being one of the most recommended and widely available ramen options in the US. These are made by a company called Sanyo. and this flagship soy sauce flavor dates back to 1966 and is often compared to the old “Oriental” (their word, not mine) flavor from Top Ramen or Maruchan, though I never really loved either of those, so hopefully this has more going on than those do. I’ve been aware of Sapporo Ichiban for a long time but never actually tried any of their products until now.

Ichiran Tonkotsu Ramen Review – Noodle Journey Episode 19

In this review, I’m finally checking one of the most hyped (and most expensive) instant ramen products out there: Ichiran Tonkotsu Ramen. Ichiran is a famous chain of Japanese ramen shops with many locations around the globe. Some call it the McDonalds of the ramen world because of its ubiquity, but by all accounts (I've never been to one in person), it sounds like it's still a damn fine meal. This noodle kit comes as a five-pack of straight noodles with a concentrated liquid tonkotsu broth and an optional spice packet, designed to replicate the flavor of their famous shops. I’ve already gone through two servings before this review, which should tell you something right away. But the big question is whether this lives up to its reputation and its price.

Nissin Demae Black Garlic Oil Tonkotsu Ramen Review – Noodle Journey Episode 14

This one brings back memories. I first tried Nissin’s Demae Black Garlic Oil Tonkotsu early in the pandemic, and it’s one of the noodles that kickstarted this entire channel (and ultimately website). I really liked it at the time, but I’ve had a lot more tonkotsu since then, including some that were pretty underwhelming (I'm looking at you, Nissin Raoh).

Nissin Cup Noodle Seafood Review – Noodle Journey Episode 11

It was only a matter of time before Cup Noodles made an appearance on the channel, and this one brings a bit of a twist. Rather than reviewing the familiar American grocery store staple, this is one of Nissin’s Japanese-inspired varieties sold in the USA, Cup Noodle Seafood, singular without the "s" at the end of "Noodle," just as it's branded in Japan. If you’ve ever wondered what sets these apart from the basic domestic offerings, you're not alone.

Nissin Raoh Artificial Tonkotsu Ramen Review – Noodle Journey Episode 8

Time to take our first step into Japanese territory with the much-hyped Nissin Raoh Artificial Tonkotsu Ramen, the self-proclaimed “king of ramen.” While most people know Nissin for their bargain-basement Cup Noodle and Top Ramen, the Raoh line is their premium noodle line here in the US. At $2.69 a pack from Wegman’s at the time I bought this (and about the same online), this one positions itself above your average grocery store find.
