After giving Prima Taste’s Singapore Curry LaMian a perfect 10, I’m finally trying their Laksa variety. Laksa is a Southeast Asian curry noodle soup that typically includes coconut milk, shrimp paste, and milder chili pepper, with a rich flavor profile that leans slightly sweet and seafood-heavy. This version includes a few additional ingredients that distinguish it from the Singapore Curry, and I’m excited to see how it compares.
Read more: Noodle Journey Episode 37: Prima Taste Laksa LaMianI paid $10.99 for a four-pack at my favorite Asian market, though pricing can vary wildly; some online listings I saw go as high as $20, so shop around. Each pack contains two servings, but let’s be honest, you’re eating the whole thing. Sodium is high at 2270mg per pack (99% of your daily value), which is notably more than the Singapore Curry version. Inside are thick lamian noodles, a laksa paste, and a powdered coconut milk packet. The paste includes coconut milk, shrimp paste, and dried shrimp. There’s no generic curry powder, but ingredients like turmeric, chili powder, laksa leaf (a Vietnamese herb similar to coriander or mint), lemongrass, galangal, and shallots give this a bright, aromatic complexity. If you’re sensitive to strong flavors, check the ingredient list first.
Noodles:
Same noodles as the Singapore Curry version, and just as good. They’re thick, chewy, and perfectly springy. Easily among the best noodles I’ve had in any instant format.

Spiciness:
Despite chili pepper paste being high on the ingredient list, this is a mellow heat. The powdered coconut milk softens it considerably, and the base paste just isn’t as hot as the Singapore Curry version. There’s a little tingle, but nothing that should scare off spice novices.

Overall:
The flavor here is outstanding. The broth is sweet, rich, and layered with creamy coconut and bold shrimp flavor, enhanced by dried shrimp pieces that provide extra seafood punch and a bit of texture. Lemongrass and galangal give it brightness without overpowering, and the shallots add a nice subtle onion flavor. It’s slightly sweeter than the curry version, but not in a cloying way. The salt is well-balanced, enhancing everything without pushing it into “too salty” territory. The broth smells strongly of seafood during prep (and please don’t let that scare you off from trying this), but once cooked, the flavor is incredibly balanced. Everything in this package works together wonderfully, and the result is a deeply comforting, restaurant-quality bowl of noodles.

If you like coconut shrimp, this is a no-brainer. You can easily customize it with add-ins like cooked shrimp, chicken, bean sprouts, hard-boiled eggs, or fried tofu. Prima Taste does offer other varieties, but thanks to USDA import restrictions, Laksa and Curry are the only ones I can reliably find in local stores. Once I get my hands on their Chili Crab variety, that’ll be the next one. Until then, this one’s going into regular rotation.
Notes since filming: Easily one of the most perfect instant noodle products ever made. You owe it to yourself to try this at least once.
