Noodle Journey Special Presentation: Just Sweet Sour Noodles

Just Sweet Sour Noodles is an imported Turkish “noodle” product I found at Dollar Tree, and it’s unlike anything I’ve ever reviewed. According to the label, these are sour noodles from a company called Just Sweet. I’ve never had noodles from Turkey before, and finding these at a dollar store seemed like destiny.

The nutritional facts list one milligram of sodium, which is unheard of for instant noodles. Ingredients include wheat flour, concentrated apple juice, corn syrup, and sugar. Based on that, these appear vegetarian, maybe even vegan, though anyone with dietary restrictions should double-check the label. Inside is a firm, multicolored block of noodles dusted with what look like tiny crystals. There were no cooking instructions provided, so I decided to wing it.

When “prepared,” they gave off a sweet-and-sour aroma: strongly fruity, with hints of sugar.

Noodles:
Thick and chewy with a firm texture. The outer crystals add a mild crunch and an oddly pleasant bite.

Spiciness:
Completely mild. Despite the red color, there’s no chili or heat.

Overall:
There’s no broth, and the flavor is a blast of sourness and sugar that tastes oddly familiar. It’s almost like Sour Patch Kids or gummy worms disguised as noodles. They’re extremely sweet, but they deliver exactly what the packaging promises, sour and sweet. I’ll give them credit for consistency.

Just kidding. If it wasn’t obvious, this was an April Fool’s Day episode. These aren’t noodles at all, they’re gummy candy shaped like noodles. They’re fun, ridiculous, and definitely the least serious review I’ve ever done. For what they are, they’re fine. For actual ramen, maybe not so much.

Notes since filming:

While I originally filmed this as an April Fool’s joke, I’m really surprised by how many people have asked for help finding it to purchase. My friends, it’s just sour gummy candy. Buy a bag of Sour Patch Kids or whatever your local Dollar Tree/Dollar General/Five Below has in stock and you’ll get the exact same flavor.
