Samyang Announces a Surprising New Buldak Flavor

Let’s start with this one, because I feel like it may be the most surprising. All credit to this Reddit post for alerting me to this. Samyang has announced a new Buldak flavor and it’s the last flavor you would expect: Banana Buldak. No, this is not a joke. Samyang is promoting some sort of new fizzy candy called “Buffamin,” and alongside that release is a banana-flavored Buldak noodle product. And lest you think that this is some crazy mistranslation and it couldn’t possibly be true… check out the packaging in the post. Bananas everywhere. I’m speculating that it’s possibly flavored like a super-spicy Filipino banana ketchup, but right now there’s no indication of that exactly. A couple things about this flavor I should mention right away since I’m sure some of you will want me to find it and review it: 1) I absolutely despise bananas, so this one is a tough sell for me, and 2) I have never had Filipino banana ketchup before (refer back to mention #1 as to why this is the case) and so if I do buy this, I won’t have any frame of reference for whether or not it resembles that. In spite of both of those things, do you want to see me hunt down this flavor for review? Let me know!

Another Gimmick Cup Noodles Flavor from Nissin

It must be that time of year again when Nissin decides to release one of its weird new flavors so that TikTok influencers can make silly faces at their cameras about it. This time around, it’s a Dill Pickle flavor, and it just released on June 21 as a Walmart exclusive, if you’d like to purchase it. After the debacle that was the S’mores flavor, I’m not in any major rush to try this, but if it becomes available for shipping or I find myself in a Walmart that has them in stock, I’ll grab one for a review. I do honestly love pickles, so there’s a part of me that thinks maybe this one could possibly turn out okay.

Mike’s Mighty Good Craft Ramen Announces a Noodle Recipe Overhaul

And finally for this month, here’s something I didn’t expect on my bingo card. Mike’s Mighty Good Ramen, one of my least favorite instant “ramen” brands on the planet, has announced on their website and social media that they’re changing their noodle recipe in response to the years of customer feedback complaining about the quality, quantity, and cooking methodology of their cup noodles. You can read all about it on their website, but they claim their new recipe cooks in 4 minutes and comes out plumper after cooking. They haven’t actually changed the weight or amount of noodles in each cup, but they claim the new “fuller-bodied shape” of the noodles will make you feel like you’re “getting more in every bite.” That sounds like a bit of marketing bullshit to me, but if the noodles do soak up more water when cooking, it might have some merit. I’ve complained a lot about Mike’s noodles over the years, so this could possibly be a good thing, but I’ve also complained about how bland their broths are and apparently those recipes aren’t changing. The new noodles have already started shipping in current packaging, but it appears that newer packaging will soon arrive with the words “Quick Noodles” emblazoned on the bottom-front of the cup, so you’ll know you’re getting the new recipe. Oddly though, it looks like (if I’m reading the announcement correctly) the pillow packs will not be receiving the new noodle recipe, only the cups. I still have a Mike’s cup or two with the older noodles on my shelf to review, so if I see the new versions of those, I’ll grab them instead for the sake of accuracy. Also possibly of interest to some people is that Mike’s noodles manufactured for Trader Joe’s will be affected by this change as well.
